With all the damage that is being done in our world today when it comes to natural resources, you may be wondering what you can do to help preserve some of the plants and animals in your area. One of the ways to do this is sustainable forestry, which is a way to conserve the natural resources of the forest with some very specific ecological goals in mind. Here is some more information about the system, as well some tips for how you can get involved in your country.

This method is largely based on the Forest Principle which was adopted at the UN Conference on Environment and Development. The meeting took place in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, and the council met to figure out ways to preserve the wood and plants that were in danger during that time. However, the amount of natural resources has been reduced since then, and pollution and free radicals have affected the way that plants are growing in every forest environment. So, in an attempt to make the regulations for sustainable forestry more accurate, the UN adopted the Non-Legally Binding Instrument on All Types of Forests in 2007; this helps to bring all the shareholders together to come up with new ways to make the environment safer for all the wildlife and humans that are living in the area.

Sustainable forestry is made up of a number of factors, and each of the council members is well aware of the concerns. They include biological diversity, which means that scientists and conservationists need to learn about the specifics of each plant to find out how it can be beneficial to other plants or humans. Forest health and vitality are also discussed, which means that council members have to come up with ways to keep all the plants in the forest healthy and effective if they are being used for medicinal purposes.

Protective functions of forest resources are also a part of sustainable forestry that need to be discussed; each area of the world that has a rain forest has to figure out which economical practices need to take place so that plants won't die unnecessarily. The economy of each country needs to be considered as well; in many cases, countries that use produce as their main form of income have to use the rain forest as a natural 'money maker'; however, countries that are more industrialized tend to use the plants to make synthetic products and medications.

You can participate in sustainable forestry in your area by not cutting down trees that you see around your home or property unless you know where to take the wood so that it can be put to good use. Using recycled paper products will also cut down on production costs for paper goods. Good luck!
